Cannabis dispensary Curaleaf Holdings Inc. asked an Illinois federal court to toss claims that it stole the contents of a tip jar, arguing that it never agreed to pay those tips to workers in the first place.
In its Tuesday bid for dismissal of Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act claims, Curaleaf argued that Illinois state wage protections concerning the disbursement of tips were only triggered if tips were included in an employment agreement, whereas tips allegedly pocketed by Curaleaf managers were never promised to workers.
