The Ojai City Council will consider allowing the opening of cannabis consumption lounges to let people consume marijuana edibles.
Councilmembers will discuss cannabis regulations on Tuesday and consider a Planning Commission recommendation to allow the lounges at three existing dispensaries: Ojai Greens, Sespe Creek Collective and Shangri-La Care Centers.
The Ojai Planning Commission met on March 2 and May 4 to develop recommendations to the City Council.
Among the other cannabis considerations, the Planning Commission denied smoking in cannabis lounges and rejected lounges and dispensaries along the East End of Ojai Avenue.
If councilmembers ultimately take up the commission’s recommendation to open lounges, it is unclear when dispensaries could begin.
“There is no definitive timeline. Instead, staff will be taking direction from council and will move forward from that point,” city spokeswoman Robin Godfrey said last week.
Port Hueneme is the only other Ventura County city with consumption lounges, according to the staff report.
Ojai currently has regulations that allow for a maximum of three dispensary/delivery
permits and two manufacturing permits and one testing lab within the city.
